Tim and Brian met as neighbors almost 20 yrs ago. Tim was well on his way in the architectural field while Brian didn't have the most direct route. Through the years they have remained friends and have grown an idea in 2012 for Modarch Design. What's unique about their partnership is that both Tim and Brian bring a very different approach to tackling different design issues, this way they hope to elevate any design concept and bring the project though completion.
Growing up, Tim was fascinated with building facades and sustainable design. It started one day during 6th grade science class, Tim had a desk that was along the window and the afternoon sun came through and baked the desk. Tim realized that there was something wrong with this situation and started to look at the façade of the school building to understand the science of the design. Since then he was fascinated with building facades.
After studying at the University of Florida, Tim mentored under an architect that focused their practice on sustainable design. Sustainable design is not costly as most would think today. Sustainable design begins with understanding the site and understanding how a building is place. Once we understand the site, everything can fall into place – your situation designed!
Tim further continued advancing his degree in architecture and studied at North Carolina State University graduating with a Masters of Architecture.
Tim understands the dynamics of working with different stakeholders, maintaining design intent, and keeping projects on-track. He has worked on various projects ranging from small residential and commercial to larger projects such as healthcare, government, higher education and public schools, but really enjoys the fun and dynamics of retail and restaurant architecture and the intimacy of residential design.
Tim is a registered architect in the State of North Carolina and is a member of the Triangle Section of the American Institute of Architects. He has served on the Tour of Residential Architecture Task Force promoting the value an architect brings to residential design. Tim is also active with his church, serving in music, children’s, and charity ministries.
Brian started his construction journey in life while working with his General Contractor dad in Cleveland Ohio. He learned early what it took to create a great project.
After graduation from High School, he moved to NY to pursue a culinary career at the Culinary Institute of America.
After many years working as a Food and beverage manager in a 5 star hotel in California before moving to Raleigh North Carolina in 2004 where he opened up his own Deli. Eventually he felt drawn to going back to grad school to follow his passion in Design and Construction. Brian graduated in 2011 from NC State School of Design. Design has always been an individual idea or thought. How can he improve on spaces. Going back to grad school in his late 30's helped him see that design is grey, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Life experiences, travel, friends, work, fun and family, have designed Brian. What he has learned along the way has helped him become a better designer and project manager.
In 2013 Brian was introduced to the Design Build construction Methodology and the rest is history. He learned how to work with his clients to maintain their idea while keeping the Budget and schedule at hand. There is nothing better than to see my clients idea's and dreams through to the end.
